About Our Charity

Hello, I’m Grecia, and a few months ago, adversity knocked on the doors of my life with a force that nearly ended me. I didn’t know how, where, or for how long this illness stalked me; a silent illness that left me on the thin line between life and death.

Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension appeared after suffering multiple pulmonary embolisms, leading to heart failure, growth on the right side of my heart, and my lungs filled with clots, which prevent me from breathing on my own and force me to be connected to an oxygen machine 24/7.

In a matter of days, I lost the mobility of my entire body, stopped eating, connected to a ventilator to breathe, with tubes blowing warm air because my body temperature was beginning to abandon me. I underwent thrombolysis to try to dissolve the clots in my lungs, catheterization, they drained my lungs because they filled with fluid, and I took medications that caused severe headaches, nausea, and vomiting. Finally, after two weeks in intensive care and four more weeks in the Specialty Hospital in Torreón, the doctors in that city, who were angels to me, managed to save my life.

But that wasn’t the worst part. The greatest pain was not being able to see my family, my loved ones. The idea of leaving them is the greatest fear and insecurity I have ever felt. I’m a mother of two little ones, a two-year-old baby and a 5-year-old boy. I have a younger sister who depends on me, a husband who has fought this battle by my side and has never let go of my hand.

When I left the hospital, the diagnosis was the same: Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension is a chronic disease with no cure and a mortality rate of 5 years. I was terrified to accept this, to miss the opportunity to see my children grow, play with them, hold my baby, and share my life with my husband. So, when I least expected it, a ray of light and hope came. I traveled to Monterrey, where I was informed about a surgery that would completely cure me, bringing me back to my life. This surgery is not performed in Mexico; it would take place in San Diego, California, at La Joya Hospital. It’s an open-heart surgery, so my family and I are seeking support to make this dream, this breath of fresh air for me, a reality, reaching out to as many people as we can and sharing our story, not just my story but that of my family—a family that supports and cares for each other.

I have faith and confidence that there are many people who understand me, who stand by my side in this battle, and who will not leave us alone because when many hearts come together, they can achieve the impossible.
